The Bay Suite — 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, 800 SF, sleeps 5. Infinity pool, free parking on the property, air conditioning, full kitchen and fiber WiFi.

What separates it from the other 2-bedrooms on the island at this price: it's on the water, not on the main road. Walk out the door onto the sand. The east end. Carib Bight sits in Santos Guardiola, about 30 minutes from the cruise terminals and the West Bay / West End strip. No excursion buses, no beach hawkers, no resort row.

What's here instead: a protected jungle bay, three reefs off the dock, a WWII shipwreck you can snorkel, and 400-year-old pirate tunnels you can paddle through. The island as it was everywhere thirty years ago.

Teens do well here because there is a long list of things to actually do, and none of it requires a parent driving. Kayaks and paddleboards off the dock. Snorkeling the Roly Poly wreck. The pirate tunnels. The Inshore Pirate Passage by skiff. Scuba certification taught on site by La Rosa Dive & Fish. The pool is lit at night, and fiber WiFi reaches the bedrooms for the hours they'll want it.

La Rosa Dive & Fish is on the property: tanks, gear lockers, rinse and showers, air fills for a small fee, and PADI dive masters and instructors who were raised diving these waters. Over 30 sites sit within 15 minutes of the dock — Patti's Place, Calvin's Crack, Carib Wall, Media Luna, plus seamounts most operators don't run.

No crowded dive boat, no fixed morning departure, no waiting on sixteen other people to clear their ears. They also book deep sea fishing — wahoo, mahi, grouper and snapper minutes offshore, with tuna, tarpon, bonefish and permit on the right day. Read the Roatan diving guide →

Check-in 10:00 AM. Check-out 3:00 PM. The island standard is 4:00 PM in and 10:00 AM out, so this gives you back most of two days.

You don't sit in the airport or kill an afternoon in a restaurant with your bags waiting for a 4:00 PM key handover. Land at 9:00, be in the pool by 10:30. Going home, the suite is yours until 3:00, and if your flight is later, leave the bags with Jorge and stay at the dock until you go. No late-checkout fee to ask about or pay. Over a week it's close to a full extra day on the property.

About 30 minutes — and the road is brand new, freshly paved the whole way out to Carib Point.

That's a recent change and a big one. The east end used to mean a long rough drive, which is most of why people talked themselves out of staying out here. It doesn't any more. Transfers can be arranged in advance through La Rosa — tell us your flight number and someone will be there.

Both. La Rosa Tiki Bar is our own dockside restaurant hanging over the bay — open most days and nights for meals and drinks, music low in the background, a live band or DJ a couple times a month. Private breakfasts, group dinners and meal plans can be set up in advance.

The protected channel running east behind the barrier reef from our dock through Blue Rock, Jonesville, Oak Ridge, Pandy Town and Fiddler's Bight to Calabash Bight. Pirates used it 400 years ago to slip away from Spanish warships, which couldn't follow them into water that shallow.

There's no open-water crossing anywhere on the route. Guests run it in the property's skiff after a short orientation, stopping at dockside restaurants, mangrove tunnels and turtle pens along the way. It's the thing people talk about most when they get home. See the map and all 21 stops →
